Richmond's old lawn bowling clubhouse disassembled, donated

More “sustainable demolition” options needed, says business owner.

A long-standing Richmond lawn bowling clubhouse from the 1960s was recently taken down to make room for a new building.

Rather than taking an excavator to the old clubhouse, the City of Richmond partnered with Burnaby-based Vema Deconstruction to dismantle the building piece by piece. Their goal was to donate and repurpose as much material as possible.

Jimmy Pattison's West Vancouver house handed over to 'urban miners'

The deconstruction of the old yellow house on the West Van waterfront has the potential to save nine tonnes of usable lumber

“We’re mining urban resources,” said Erick Serpas Ventura, company co-founder. “All the material that is coming from this project can be upcycled, can be repurposed, can be brought back into the circular economy, can create more jobs. It can create a better community.”
